Succession Planner Version 2.0 Now Released

Submitted by  on February 4th, 2010

succession planning software toolWe’ve been working hard this last couple of weeks to get version 2.0 of our succession planning software tool out. Andy Beaulieu is the tool’s author and I think he did a great job of improving on what was already a fantastic tool. I’m really impressed with how much functionality he put into what is a quite simple tool to use.

If you are not familiar with the tool, here is some of what it can do. Succession Planner shows the succession status of employees in a color-coded Organization Chart. The chart updates automatically with any changes you make. I love the C-P Matrix. This matrix plots the distribution of employees according to their contribution and potential. You can generate reports automatically to show your leadership team info on any employee and any position in the planner. As a bonus, the planner also includes a simple scorecard that displays some key succession measures for your organization.

OK, how did we improve on an already great tool? Well, we increased the capacity of the Organization Chart and the Position Profile report. This comes in very handy considering the wider spans of control that we find in businesses today.

We also added a cell occupants report to the C-P Matrix and altogether made the tool more configurable for you, our customers. Plus, you can now copy any chart or list and paste it as an image into Word, PowerPoint or another application.

The tool remains as a robust Microsoft Excel template and you get two great resources; a comprehensive User Guide for people administering the tool and a Process Guide to help human resources staffs set up a succession planning process.

Version 2.0 has a demo version as well. We haven’t changed that. You can download the demo from the Succession Planner product page Best of all, if you are a current user of Succession Planner, you can get Version 2.0 for free. Just follow the instructions on the product page and we will send it to you.

Let us know what you think. We look forward to your comments. If you have any questions about Succession Planner, ask them here or drop us an email. Happy succession planning!
